Who We Are

The Desert Classic is an annual golf tournament and event started in 1994 by Steve McFarland. The idea was to have a tournament during the winter somewhere warm with friends. The first Desert Classic was in Palm Desert and there were eight players. It was a great time, so Steve decided to do it again, the following year in Scottsdale. The second Desert Classic had sixteen players, and from there it grew to over 100 players! In 2017 Steve asked his daughters, Chelsea and Danielle if they wanted to help him organize and run the event. Fortunately for him the said "yes" and they made the tournament go from really good to incredibly great! The three love to try and make every year better than the previous one. They are always trying to give everyone the BEST EVER experience they can have in four days. It truly has become an event that everyone really looks forward to.

Steve "McFly" McFarland

Tournament Director & Founder. The Desert Classic is his passion. Working with his daughters is his dream. Making friends and making them happy is what it is all about!

Chelsea "Chels" McFarland

Venue Coordinator. Chelsea works hard to make sure we always have the best venues selected for the Classic. She also helps with the entertainment and set up. 

Danielle "D" McFarland

Tournament Organizer. Danielle organizes and does all of the power-point  and scoring for the tournament. Also helping with shootouts and all the coordination required to make things run smoothly.

Craig "NAGZ" Nagler

Craig has been a huge help in getting the Desert Classic hotel venues set up. He always negotiates the best possible rates for our group. Craig also runs the annual DC Birdie Contest.  He is also the Gray Team Captain and former champion having won in 2022.
